Perception study of adult and vocational education
In 2002, the Adult Education and Employment Training Unit in the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education was interested in assessing the public's perception of vocational and adult education in Missouri. Horizon Research Services, in cooperation with a team from DESE, developed surveys administered to 400 households, 200 businesses, 170 administrators, 288 counselors, 290 middle/junior high and high school students, and 250 adult students. Telephone, Internet, and mail survey methodologies were used. Extensive analysis was conducted and a report was completed which included recommendations for marketing strategies.
Assessment of child care needs and resources
In 2000, an extensive assessment of child care resources and needs in Boone County was conducted by Horizon Research Services for the Community County Child Care Consortium in Boone County. Horizon Research Services conducted a survey of parents of pre-school children to gather information on their opinions of availability, affordability, and quality of child care in Boone County.
Horizon Research Services interviewed 340 parents of children 5 years of age or younger. Two hundred fifty-one parents were surveyed by telephone and eighty-nine parents were interviewed in person. Respondents were asked about their current arrangements for child care, cost, type of provider, and distance of the provider. Parents were also asked questions pertaining to factors used in their choice of current care, their satisfaction with this care, and ease of finding different types of child care. In addition, respondents were asked about employer assistance with child care needs. Results are being used to develop strategic plans for child care in the county.
